Slovak is accredited with the early south the band produced. Truth is, he wasn't half the guitarist John was at the same age. RHCP always had a good rhythm section. Their vocals and sloppy guitar work kept them from getting anywhere early on. When their guitarists changed, so did they. The sound that got them known came from Flea, Chad, John, and the guy who yells while those 3 are trying to play music. They had what, 7? 8? Guitar players? Fact is they were all better, even early on, than Slovak was. Though highly regarded, he's not a Cliff Burton, Brad Nowell, or Eddie Van Halen to his band. It's nice to take a historic look at such an iconic band, but they're only iconic because Slovak wasn't able to continue on with them 🤷🏻‍♂️

His tone is beautiful. The notes he chooses and improvises are so colorful. This man inspired me to pick up guitar in 06. His work on the Stadium Arcadium album to me is a masterpiece. Learning that whole album by ear is all a person needs to know to be an efficient guitarist.
